They may look similar in form, but in the processing and content there are extremely concise differences. In the end, Oeko-Tex for conventional cotton products is better than nothing, but it can in no way be compared to GOTS certified organic textiles.

GOTS label "organic" or "kbA/kbT" must contain at least 95% certified organic fibers, a product with the label "made from x% kbA/kbT fibers" at least 70%. When awarding the certificate, not only the quality criteria of the fibers and yarns play a role, but also ecological and social aspects along the entire supply chain. The aim of the seal is to define and implement globally valid requirements regarding the cultivation, further processing, transport and trade of organic fibers.

Along the entire supply chain, it is ensured that the natural fibers do not come into contact with conventional fibers. When processing the fibers, only processing methods and dyes that meet the GOTS standards and are harmless are permitted. For example, bleaching is only used in exceptional cases - and then with oxygen - wool may not be chlorinated, and only substances that are harmless to health and the environment may be used for dyeing and printing. Problematic substances such as toxic heavy metals, formaldehyde, aromatic solvents, chlorophenols, or certain halogen compounds are prohibited in the entire production process. Imprints and packaging containing PVC are prohibited Eco-seal Textile All V1 Page 5 05.10.2018 and packaging cardboard and all paper items (labels, etc.) must bear sustainable forestry seals (FSC, PEFC) as of 2014. In addition, a number of basic social criteria apply to the workforce in the growing and processing companies.
