Singing bowl 18 cm diameter - the material:

This singing bowl was worked by hand in India and came to us by shipload, which is more ecological. 
The size, the singing bowl, has an impact on the sound, as well as, of course, the material used in the manufacture. Traditionally, singing bowls are made from an alloy of copper and tin. Often, other components are included in our metal mixture. For example, silver, gold, zinc or even iron can be other components. 

Singing bowl 18 cm diameter - the production:

This is all melted down, and this mixture is then filled into a mold for handmade singing bowls. Subsequently, this mixture is still processed, for example, in an oven or worked with a hammer, in between again exposed to heat in the oven and then removed again and worked out with the hammer. This process can be repeated several times until the smith is satisfied with his work. When the form is so far consolidated, the singing bowl is still polished.

Hand crafted versus industrially manufactured:                               

Since the hand-made singing bowls cause a lot of time and work, the majority of singing bowls are nowadays industrially produced and often made of a much cheaper brass alloy. Handmade singing bowls are always immediately recognizable that they never have a completely smooth surface.

Worked by hand: 

Typically, small dents are found in the shell. Another indicator can be about it the price. Especially in the Himalayan region, the singing bowls were made under laborious manual labor. Due to the increasing demand as well as the cost reduction singing bowls are usually only industrially manufactured with the help of a cheap brass alloy.

The sounds of the singing bowls can be extremely soothing. You can elicit tones from a singing bowl by hitting it or drumming against it or by circling the bowl with the clapper, always keeping some tension. The vibrations that we create with a singing bowl can produce extremely soothing vibrations.
