"GOTS". This stands for organic textiles, which were grown sustainably. Moreover, also sustainably processed and shipped. In addition, fair working conditions are guaranteed. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is considered the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibers. 

Why GOTS is considered one of the leading certification: 

Specifically, this means that the high environmental criteria along the entire supply chain of organic textiles and their compliance with social criteria are defined and verified. Moreover, organic cotton is grown without harmful chemicals. Thus, the soil, air and water are free of harmful contaminants.

Employment is freely chosen (no forced labor). Working conditions are safe and hygienic. Child labor may not be used. The level of wage payment ensures subsistence. Working hours are not excessively long. No discrimination is practiced. Harsh or inhumane treatment is prohibited.

In addition, one of the significant differences is that organic cotton produces about 46 % less CO2e compared to conventional cotton. It also uses much less water for cultivation. Since organic cotton producers usually use rain much more than artificial irrigation. Our organic cotton yoga mat is from a GOTS certified producer and was transported and packaged as ecologically as possible.

Although they may look similar in shape, they are very different. Both in substance and in the content and processing, they still differ massively. In this respect, Oeko-Tex for conventional cotton products is better than nothing. Nevertheless, but it can never be compared with GOTS certified organic textiles.

There are two different certifications for organic cotton, which we want to take a closer look at. On the one hand the Organic Content Standard and on the other hand the Global Organic Textile Standard.

Organic Content Standard:

Consequently, the Organic Content Standard ensures that from raw material to finished product, it meets organic standards. Thus, for OCS-certified fabrics, the entire supply chain - including the farm where they were grown - must be certified as organic.

Global Organic Textile Standard:

However, on closer inspection, the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is more thorough. This is because it also covers every step in the supply chain. In fact, it is the most comprehensive accreditation that covers fiber production, processing and manufacturing. In addition to product labeling, it also includes various environmental factors. Moreover, a whole set of social criteria of the International Labor Organization.

In short, organic TeX certification focuses on the end product. In contrast, organic certification safeguards the entire journey from raw fiber to the final product. Eco-TeX certified fabric no longer contains harmful chemical residues, but this does not mean that some were not used along the way.

GOTS:

In contrast, however, is guaranteed that in organic cotton fabric in any of the production processes have never been used harmful chemicals.
