Sandalwood incense holder: the sandalwood tree
Sandalwood comes from the "Santalum Album", a tree native exclusively to India. It grows up to 10 meters high and it takes 25 years to extract the sandalwood. In India, the home of sandalwood, the fragrance is used in weddings, funerals, meditations and rituals. Sandalwood is usually divided into white, yellow and red. The tree from which sandalwood is extracted can grow up to 10 meters high. The tree itself is extremely undemanding and easy to care for. When it blossoms, it first shines in various shades of yellow. Gradually, the flowers change color to intense reds.
On the one hand, the sandalwood tree can feed on surrounding grasses. But on the other hand, it also draws its food from neighboring trees and plants. So that you can imagine this better: Imagine that the tree forms suckers on its roots, similar to an octopus. These suckers then pull food from neighboring plants. As a result, however, the food-giving plant hardly grows at all, since it often does not have enough nutrients at its disposal. Such trees are called semi-parasites.
