Stainless steel drinking straws

For some time, the stainless steel drinking straws are seen more and more often. However, few people know what it is all about.
Below you can read more about the positive effects on our environment.

Our stainless steel drinking straws and the origin:

It can take up to 450 years for plastic to completely decompose and break down. Moreover, it has been proven that we ingest all kinds of toxins through the chemicals found in plastic. These promote diseases. From heart problems to obesity to allergies and cancer in all its forms. Stainless steel, on the other hand, is hygienic, easy to clean and also permanently reusable. These arguments speak for our stainless steel drinking straws.

You can choose from the following sizes:

Ban on single-use plastic products

After 13 hours of discussions, it was decided in 2018 within the European Union that as of 03.07.21 a plastic ban will apply in the EU. This affects the following items:

  • Plastic tableware
  • Sticks for balloons
  • Stirring rod
  • Cotton swab
  • Drinking straws
  • it also concerns food containers made of styrofoam and beverage cups

In the EU alone, we produce around 26 million pieces of plastic per year. The new regulation is intended to relieve the burden on our oceans.

In Switzerland, we do not have such a ban by law. However, Geneva, for example, has issued such a ban. In general, you can already feel the self-responsibility and the rethinking in our country. Currently, a general ban on OXO plastic is still being discussed. Although it can be replaced more quickly, chemicals still end up in our wastewater. This in turn can lead to the diseases mentioned above.

Bans in other countries

More and more countries are banning plastic drinking straws and other disposable products. In the following countries, bans have already been implemented or are in the planning stage:

  • Bangladesh: thin plastic bags have been banned since 2002. It was the first country in the world to enact such a plastic ban. The reason was the clogging of drainage systems.
  • China: since 2008, free plastic bags have been banned to counter irresponsible use. The production of thin plastic bags has been completely banned.
  • Rwanda, Africa: since 2008, there has been a strict ban regulating the import, production, sale and possession of plastic bags.
  • Italy: plastic bags have been banned since 2011. Only bags made of biodegradable materials are allowed.
  • New Delhi, India: since 2012 all disposable bags are banned! Other Indian cities and districts also participate in plastic bans.
  • Kenya, Africa: A law banning plastic bags has been in force there since 2017. This is intended to prevent the blockage of drains and watercourses, which is responsible for the large drinking water pollution.
  • San Francisco, USA: since 2017, a plastic bag ban is in effect. The use of plastic bottles is also only allowed to a limited extent.
  • Bali, Indonesia: there is a big garbage problem in Bali, which has prompted the government to ban all single-use plastic, such as shopping bags, straws and tableware, from summer 2019. Thus, the garbage around the
